5th Dec 2011 IT Assesment Launch

IT Assessment Programme Launch

Syntax IT Services Division has launched a new IT Assessment Programme to support businesses in their bid to achieve greater value, increased efficiency and stronger governance for their IT strategy.

The half day free assessment focuses on four key areas of a business:

Corporate IT Governance and Strategic Alignment: A practical approach to IT governance and best practices, with particular focus on the IT strategy supporting the business strategy, how IT is valued within the business including:

  • Understanding the business strategy, key priority areas, and business problem statements
  • A current view of IT within the business
  • Specific compliance requirements and risks to be mitigated
  • What performance measures are already in place

IT Service Maturity: reviewing where the IT function is on the service management maturity curve and analyse what is appropriate for the business and the practical benefits of service improvement, including:

  • Quality of service and service management delivered into the client
  • ‘As is’ view of key service delivery areas and desired state
  • Identifying opportunities to increase shareholder value

IT Efficiency: identifying areas to reduce cost without affecting operational delivery, appropriate benchmarking of the delivery partners, including Communications, Contracted Services, Capital Assets and mid-contract reviews, specifically considering:

  • Reduction in duplicated services
  • In life contract benchmarking
  • Opportunities for detailed review of the largest cost areas

Measures and KPIs: objective measurement of performance of the IT function, how efficient is it compared with similar organisations, and how effective is it in supporting the business strategy such as:

How is IT performance measured against the business strategy

  • Cost and efficiency balanced score cards

IT Services Director David White explained: “The goal of our Advisory Service is to ensure that our clients gain maximum benefit from any investment in Technology and Support. This requires a clear understanding of the business goals in the first instance and subsequently how any investment in IT supports those goals.

“Recommendations made as a result of this assessment will focus purely on efficiency gains, greater governance and increased value against the business strategy.”

28th Oct 2011 Managed Solutions

Traditional backup is now a broken and outdated solution, and with technology developing at a rapid pace, a more effective answer is needed, according to Syntax IT Services Director David White.

He explained: “Nobody knows the problems better than today’s backup administrator. Tape drives don't always cooperate, servers don’t transfer data to backup servers quickly enough, and restores take too long. Couple this with the size of the average data growing 100,000% over the last 15 years, and you can see why a new approach is needed.”

Syntax IT Services has therefore developed a Managed Solution, which presents a radically different approach to data protection that will help businesses overcome the obstacles of backup and restore.

This new, holistic concept addresses today’s data protection challenges created by large data growth, expanding data types (i.e., email, databases and virtual servers) and bandwidth limitations caused by larger remote offices and mobile user.

Syntax IT Services’ Managed Solution intelligently combine multiple functions and processes to unify backup and recovery with instant availability and automated disaster recovery (DR).

Managed backup services addresses several areas:

  • How server virtualisation has disrupted traditional backup processes - forcing companies to reconsider their approach to typical tape backup and restore
  • How to improve data protection while lowering DR cost
  • How to dramatically reduce the amount of data replicated for disaster recovery
  • How to implement application centric data protection across any application
  • How to mix physical and virtual server environments into a heterogeneous disaster recovery solution
  • How to automate complex, time consuming, error-prone DR procedures
